A year ago, several players of this West Indies side did not think of making it to the last stage of the World Cup, let alone the semis. But here they are. The captain, Stefanie Taylor, hopes that her team will bring their A-game tomorrow. “We want to relish the moment and go out there and play hard cricket”, she said.

The West Indies side has been a box-office throughout this tournament. There have been ups and downs in the performances, one good game followed up by a lesser good performance and so on. But their willpower has been consistent. On their route to the semis, they have defeated the defending champions, England, and the hosts New Zealand in thrillers that could have gone either way.

After their win against England, Anisa Mohammed told the press that “everyone has counted us as underdogs, but we have nothing to lose, we have come here to have fun, and we have a lot of teams to surprise in this tournament.”

Stefanie Taylor, the captain of the side, praises the coaching staff for making it to the prestigious stage of the tournament. “We have had some changes to our team; we have a new coaching staff. I believe that the work they have been doing with us has changed the way we go about our game.”

Important match

West Indies’ stats against the Australian side are not good in the ODIs. They have only managed to defeat them once in 13 meetings. And in the group stage, the match was one-sided after Ellyse Perry’s brilliance with the ball.

Now going into the do or die game, Taylor hopes that the team gathers and put their best foot forward. “We need to play like a final tomorrow to find out who is on the top. We want to relish the moment and go out there and play hard cricket.”

Even the Australian captain is full of praise for this West Indies side. Meg Lanning said that they have many world-class players who can turn the game on their very own. “We are preparing for their best, and their best is very dangerous. So, we are expecting them to come out there and play well”, she said.
